Village One Kitchen
Built in the mid-1990’s, this home’s kitchen was outdated and rapidly deteriorating. The kitchen was past-due for an upgrade both in form and function, so the homeowners were referred to Al Rosa Construction to redesign the layout and update finishes while keeping an appropriate feel in the home’s neo-contemporary layout.
The Challenge
The original layout of the kitchen was not conducive to efficient cooking or entertaining and the undersized island was poorly located. The location of the refrigerator also needed to be re-imagined to resolve a bottleneck in the kitchen’s entrance to improve the flow and functionality of the space. Lastly, the awkward neo-angled inside corner where the fridge was made for a unique challenge that would require rethinking the cabinetry design entirely.

Our Solution
First, we tackled the kitchen’s layout and made the walking paths wider between the island and outer cabinetry.
To address the missing flooring issue from where the island was moved, we worked with our flooring subcontractor to seamless weave in engineered hardwood. The new island was expanded and we installed a beautiful butcher block top making the island significantly more functional both for food prep and entertaining guests with the addition of usable bar seating.
We relocated the refrigerator to the left of the sink to resolve the bottleneck problem and to create a work triangle that made sense for the space. Finally, by shrinking the cabinet depth slightly and putting in a feature-style wine-rack we maximized the use of the awkward neo-angled corner.
To top it off all new can lighting was installed along with a handsome quartz counter-top complete with a full height back-splash.
After
The kitchen remodel went smoothly, There were no surprises. Communication was excellent, including when we added several things to the original plan.
